Wausau Water Works customers will get their opportunity to sound off on the proposed water rate increases through the public utility commission at 3:00 PM Thursday.
The public hearing will be held via Zoom and will be recorded and published on YouTube immediately following the meeting. Information on how to join the Zoom meeting can be found here including a link to join the meeting directly. Telephone, email, and snail mail options are also available.
The increase has been recommended by the city’s financial consultants as the utility prepares to install a granular activated carbon filtration system to remove PFAS from the drinking water supply. Consultants also spoke about the financial health of the utility, saying they would recommend the increase even if the city can secure a significant amount of grant and forgivable loan funding for the project.
The proposed increase would take the average water bill in Wausau from around $73 to $110, or an increase of about 54% for a customer with a 5/8 inch or 3/4 inch meter.
