MADISON, WI (WSAU) – This week marks one of the Badgers’ biggest recruiting events of the off-season and it didn’t take long for the team to get their first commitment.
On Sunday, Vernon Woodward, a three-star defensive back from 2024, committed to the Wisconsin Badgers, becoming the program’s ninth recruit of the cycle.
Woodward, a cornerback from Florida who stands 6’2 and weighs 180 pounds, visited Wisconsin this past weekend and decided to be the first to commit to the program this week.
The cornerback was supposed to go on an official visit to Illinois this weekend, but after spending a weekend in Madison, he changed his mind and decided to join Wisconsin.
Woodward, who had 22 offers, joins the Badgers as the first cornerback recruits in the 2024 class. The team will likely focus on adding another later in the cycle as several others are scheduled to make official visits later this month.
Hank Weber, a three-star defensive lineman, also announced his commitment to the Wisconsin Badgers on Monday.

Weber, a defensive end from Tennessee who is 6’4 and 250 pounds, is the first defensive lineman the Badgers have signed in the 2024 class.
He had received significant interest from North Carolina and Vanderbilt, where he was scheduled to make official visits this weekend, but choose Wisconsin after a strong official visit.
The Badgers landed three-star edge rusher Thomas Heiberger earlier in their 2024 class and also hosted three-star edge rusher Dominic Nichols and four-star defensive lineman Benedict Umeh on official visits this past weekend.
