MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – On Sunday the Washington Wizards and Phoenix Suns made a blockbuster trade for All-Star guard Bradley Beal.
The trade included Suns star, Chris Paul, Landry Shamet a handful of second-round picks, and multiple pick swaps according to The Athletic.
Sources also told The Athletic that Beal picked the Suns over multiple other trade scenarios, including Miami, Milwaukee, and Sacramento. The Wizards entered serious negotiations with the Suns and Heat on Saturday, and that’s when the Bucks re-entered the picture. League sources said Milwaukee officials spoke with Beal on Saturday to pitch him on the Bucks.
Milwaukee would’ve had a difficult path toward trading for Beal and the details of their conversation have not been made public.
The team is now expected to refocus on keeping its core stars together. Khris Middleton is expected to return to Milwaukee, according to NBA executives who spoke with Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, who also noted that the franchise continues to be highly interested in bringing Brook Lopez back.
If Middleton chooses to decline his $40.4 million player option for 2023–2024, Scotto reported that Milwaukee is likely to offer him a four-year, $130 million contract. Despite expressing wanting to stay in Milwaukee back in January, Lopez is expected to be chased by the Houston Rockets and other teams this offseason.
