TOWN OF RUDOLPH, WI (WSAU) — A 24-year-old man has been arrested after a high-speed chase that began in the Town of Rudolph and ended after spike stripes disabled his vehicle in Portage County.
It started when officers in Wood County attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Zachary Zywicki. The vehicle didn’t pull over, sparking the chase.
Officers notified their peers in Portage County who were able to deploy spike strips near the intersection of Highway 66 and County Road HH. They successfully deflated the vehicle’s tires, and Zywicki crashed.
He fled the scene on foot, forcing officers to bring in a K9 unit from Plover. After an hour of searching, he was arrested.
Officers are recommending charges of fleeing and operating while intoxicated. Zywicki is also facing numerous traffic citations related to the chase, which reached speeds of 115 MPH. Officers say the initial stop was for speeding and reckless driving.
No further information has been released, including what intoxicants Zywicki was under the influence of.
