MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – Khris Middleton’s agent officially confirmed to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Wednesday that Middleton has chosen to forego his $40.4 million player option with the Milwaukee Bucks and will be an unrestricted free agent.
Middleton is a three-time All-Star who has played with the Bucks for the last ten NBA seasons after beginning his career with the Detroit Pistons. He scored 20.1 points, grabbed 5.4 rebounds, and made 5.4 assists a game last season.
After an injury-plagued season in 2022–23, he played in only 33 games with an average of just 15.1 points on 43.6 percent shooting, 4.9 assists, and 4.2 rebounds.
The five-year, $177.5 million contract Middleton signed during the 2019 offseason, though, has proven to be well worth it after he played a key role in helping the team win a championship back in 2021.
The loss of Middleton is a big blow for Milwaukee considering their current roster situation and also not owning a first-round pick in tonight’s NBA draft. They now have a major hole to fill in their starting lineup, if they are unable to resign him.
According to NBA executives who Michael Scotto of HoopsHype spoke to, Khris Middleton will likely sign a four-year, $130 million contract to return to Milwaukee. He might, however, receive an offer from another team that is more favorable than that rumored price range.
