WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – On Friday, former President Donald Trump will not participate in a series of interviews alongside other presidential candidates, skipping the first event for GOP candidates.
Six candidates will be interviewed one-on-one by the co-founder of The Daily Caller during a discussion organized by Blaze Media and The Family Leader.
According to Vander Plaats, the candidates will include Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, former Vice President Mike Pence, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy.
The countdown has begun for contenders to get supporters out ahead of the first election of the 2024 presidential campaign as Iowa’s GOP caucus has been set for January 15.
The Des Moines Register reports that every Republican candidate will visit the first-in-the-nation state in the upcoming three weeks aside from former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
Former President Trump visited Council Bluffs, Iowa over the weekend and stated that he is “the most pro-farmer president that you’ve ever had.”
“Iowa also needs to know that Ron DeSanctus totally despises Iowa ethanol and ethanol generally,” Trump said, “He’s been fighting it for years. Don’t forget, as a congressman he was voting against it, and fighting for years to kill every single job.”
The attack was called a misrepresentation by DeSantis’ campaign. The campaign’s press secretary, Bryan Griffin, sent a statement via email to the AP that read, “Governor Ron DeSantis will be a champion for farmers as president and use every tool available to open new markets.”
According to Real Clear Politics’, Trump has been outperforming every other Republican candidate in national surveys, with an average of 53%.
A new poll from the Morning Consult shows former President Trump currently leading Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis 56% to 17% nationally. The poll also found that Vivek Ramaswamy is currently in third place at 8% nationally and former VP Mike Pence is in fourth at 7%.
