MADISON, WI (WSAU) – Remington Nystrom will serve seven years in prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a child.
In April, the 34-year-old Wisconsin Rapids resident pled no contest to second-degree sexual abuse of a juvenile. When Nystrom was working as a camp counselor at Mount Morris camp near Waushara in 2009, the victim accused him of groping them while they were sleeping.
According to Attorney General Josh Kaul, the report was first sent to the Attorney General’s Clergy and Faith Leader program instead reporting the assault directly to the church or the authorities.
Court records also show that Nystrom was convicted of sexual assault in 2019 after pleading not guilty to charges related to a crime back in 2008 that included both sexual assault and emotional injury to a minor. As a result, Nystrom was registered as a sex offender and received a six-month prison sentence.
Back in February following Nystrom’s arrest, Kaul encouraged anyone who has been abused or knows someone who has been abused to report it to the DOJ, either online at SupportSurvivors.widoj.gov or by calling 1-877-222-2620.
