STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU-WAOW) A group of teachers rallied against the Stevens Point School District’s decision to start the school year with in-person classes.
The rally of about 25 demonstrators took place outside of the district’s administration building. The teachers say they were left out of the decision-making process when it came to the upcoming school year and that they wanted to be consulted beforehand.
“There aren’t more qualified people to help make the decision about how to return to school safely then the educator that’s in the classroom, the person that knows that room, knows those kids, and knows the facility,” said Keith Olson, President of the Stevens Point Area Education Association.
Schuyler Pietz who is the Association’s Vice President told WAOW-TV that a survey was sent out to teachers: 57.8% preferred e-learning as their number once choice, 24.8% preferred a hybrid model, and 17% wanted in-person learning.
The Stevens Point Area School District begins class on Wednesday, September 9.
