RIB MOUNTAIN, WI (WSAU) — Rib Mountain held its first Village meeting on Tuesday, swearing in four temporary Village Trustees and a Village President while officially naming other Village leaders to their appointed posts.
“It’s kind of interesting. What we had to do was swear in interim trustees and then they did regular appointments for positions [like] treasurer, clerk, assessor, and attorney,” said Village Administrator Gaylene Rhoden.
Rhoden herself was another one of those employees who had to be appointed to her new post within the Village. a move that was recommended by the Village’s legal team. While many of those jobs are permanent, the elected officials need to quickly turn around and get in campaign mode ahead of another special election on September 5th.
That will lock in a Village President and four Trustees. Rhoden says the President will be elected to a two-year term. The top four vote-getters will be seated as Trustees, with the top two also elected to a two-year term. The bottom two will serve a seven-month term and will be up for re-election in April 2024.
Because of the quick turnaround there will only be one week of in-person, absentee voting at the Village Municipal Center. Rhoden says they are working to get absentee ballots delivered to those who request them for each election as well. Village leaders may also send a reminder postcard to registered voters reminding them about the upcoming election.
“[We are working on a] crucial timeframe. We are working to get everything out in a timely manner,” added Rhoden.
Those interested in running for a Village Trustee post do still have time to submit paperwork. Rhoden says they should contact either the Village Clerk or Marathon County Clerk for details.
