Wausau’s Capital Improvements and Street Maintenance Committee will get their first look at a proposal for a new fleet maintenance garage for the Department of Public Works on Thursday.
The committee is scheduled to hear from Barrientos Design, who have prepared a proposal for a $25.2 million project that would include a mix of demolition and new construction along with some remodeling of current buildings on the site of the proposal facility.
According to a copy of the presentation included in Thursday’s agenda packet, the new facility would have three main elements- a parking structure, an office building, and a repair facility.
Estimates show demolition at the site would cost just under $1.5 million. About $23.7 million in construction and remodeling would be required.
The committee voted to explore the project last winter, noting the age of the current facility and lack of space as reasons for exploring a new building.
