The Jordan Love era is about to begin. Welcome to Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati where the Green Bay Packers new starting quarterback, only the third in 32 years, will take the last, small step before making the leap into full time duty that counts.
The Pre-Season opener is almost at hand. The Packers and the Bengals had a feisty practice on Wednesday. Can’t wait to watch the first Elgton Jenkins vs DJ Reader rep. I’ve had a few conversations with guys in the personnel department and they’re convinced about the athletic level of the assembled talent, tonight the youngsters who consistently make NFL plays will also make moves on the position group or special teams pecking order.
But the bright lights will be on Love. He’s replacing a first ballot Hall of Famer to be, who replaced another first ballot inductee enshrined. It’s a daunting prospect but one endured by a quarterback who will likely start in place of Cincinnati’s injured star Joe Burrow. Trevor Siemian was drafted in the 7th round back in 2015 by the Denver Broncos and watched Peyton Manning bow out of the game with a Super Bowl Championship, his second with a second team, he retired that spring, Canton bound. In 2016, the job was Trevor’s. So what was it like succeeding a legend? Siemian started 14 games in his second pro season, going 8-6. He threw for 3400 yards with 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. His tenure didn’t last long and he’s been on the move since. Cincinnati is already his 7th NFL team. I along with Rob Demovsky and Bill Huber caught up with Trevor after Wednesday’s practice and got some very good insight as to what’s in store for Jordan Love.
Let’s pick up the story from that 2016 season.
It may be only a series or two for Love tonight but we’re just a month away from his time with this Green Bay Packers team. And so it begins.
