MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Coronavirus activity remains high in Wisconsin, according to the state’s weekly dashboard, but more counties saw their trajectories shrink than grow over the past week.
Waushara County is one of 11 listed as having shrinking trajectories of virus activity. Fond du Lac County, where officials earlier Wednesday warned of a surge in cases, is one of six that have growing trajectories.
No county is listed as having a low burden or activity level. “Burden” is defined as number of cases per 100,000 residents; “activity” is a combination of burden and trajectory.
The Fox Valley and Northeast areas are both listed as having high burdens and activity, no change from a week ago. The Southeast and Western areas are listed as having shrinking trajectories. No regions are listed as having growing trajectories.
Meanwhile, the seven-day average number of new cases is at its lowest level in nearly a month. The state Department of Health Services reported 478 new cases on Wednesday. That sent the seven-day average to 760, the lowest it has been since July 14.
There were 9,446 negative tests reported on Wednesday. The 4.8% positive rate was down from Tuesday’s 5.3% and lower than the seven-day average of 6.3%.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 62,263 confirmed cases and 1,023,723 negative tests.
As of Wednesday, DHS listed 52.530 people as having recovered from COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus.
DHS also reported five new deaths on Wednesday, bringing the total to 1,011.
