PLOVER, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – On Wednesday, area veterans participated in a roundtable conversation moderated by Congressman Derrick Van Orden, allowing major concerns to be heard directly from the source.
People who are passionate about issues that can be resolved at the federal level include Randy Lamke of Plover.
“I see a vet on the street, and it breaks my heart. I was almost there myself, I had to go dark and deep inside with the VA to get me to where I am today, and I’m much better. We can make those vets much better also,” Lamke said.
Van Orden serves in the House Committees on Transportation and Infrastructure, Agriculture, and Veterans Affairs.
The event took place at Van Orden’s VFW Post 10262 in Plover, which he belongs to.
In order for change to be considered, Van Orden concluded, people who may affect change must be made aware of concerns like these.
“The federal government can screw up just about anything it touches. There’s a few things that we can do that are good, and that’s helping out our constituents with passports and VA issues and Social Security issues,” he said.
Some of the most prominent discussion topics included access to benefits, health care, and problems with Veterans Affairs and Social Security.
