MILWAUKEE, WI (Wisconsin Radio Network-WSAU) – Wisconsin’s Lieutenant Governor says Donald Trump’s campaign appearance in Oshkosh is a sign of desperation. Mandella Barnes said during a media call from the Democratic Party of Wisconsin said that Trump’s poll numbers are dropping and COVID-19 is surging.
He said moving the Democratic National Campaign to a virtual event is the responsible thing to do, saying that’s a sharp contrast with the Trump campaign: “So as we battle COVID-19, we’re doing the responsible thing. Here in Wisconsin unfortunately we hit that benchmark of 1,000 deaths. And this is one of the reasons we’re not having an in-person convention, it would not be responsible or safe for us to do so.”
Barnes said Trump is not serious about addressing the Coronavirus pandemic: “He is showing his lack of sincerity in addressing this issue in any sort of way, by scheduling an in-person visit to Wisconsin. This is a very desperate move, but a move that will put lives at risk, including the people who are traveling with him, including his own.”
Trump will stop at Wittman Airport in Oshkosh at 4:30pm Monday, after an earlier stop in Mankato, according to his campaign. He’s expected to discuss presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden’s record on jobs and the economy, as the largely-virtual Democratic National Convention opens in Milwaukee.
