MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – Milwaukee Bucks new star point guard Damian Lillard stated on Thursday that he’s “definitely” interested in joining Team USA’s men’s basketball team in Paris next year.
“I would definitely be interested. I don’t know if I can say right now to do something that I would absolutely do,” Lillard said, per Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports. “I’ve had the experience, and it’s just, you know, it’s a very time-consuming thing.”
“I’m tight with all my family members. So it’s just how I would feel or even if they invite me to be on a team, so definitely interested, but it’s not something that I’m for sure about right now,” Lillard continued.
Lillard’s only international experience came from being a part of the 2020 Tokyo team, which took home a gold medal.
Team USA is expected to be loaded with NBA stars after Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid formally committed to playing for the USA on X yesterday. Other All-NBA stars who have expressed interest in competing for Team USA include LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Jayson Tatum. This lineup has the potential to rank among the best in American history, on par with the 1992 Dream Team and the 2008 Redeem Team, if all interested players participate.
