GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – The Green Bay Packers are adding to their running back depth after waiving Patrick Taylor last week.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Packers and free agent running back James Robinson have agreed to a deal.
The 25-year-old Robinson rushed for over 1,000 yards for the Jacksonville Jaguars back in 2020 and has struggled to find a place on a team’s roster since being traded by the Jaguars to the Jets last season. He was last with the New York Giants during the preseason.
Aaron Jones, the team’s star running back, practiced on Monday but still has a hamstring injury and has only played 48 snaps and 17 touches in 2023. He played three quarters in Chicago, missed two games, had 20 total snaps in a loss to Detroit, and then missed another game. When asked last week if he thought Jones would play on Sunday, LaFleur responded, “I sure as hell hope so.”
Meanwhile, A.J. Dillon is coming off his best game of the season after carrying the ball 20 times for a season-high 76 yards against the Raiders.
The Packers have struggled to run the ball this season, but they face the Denver Broncos on Sunday, and their defense has allowed 170 yards or more in three of their six games. The Broncos have also allowed the position to have the most rushing yards, the second-most rushing touchdowns, the second-most receiving yards, the most receiving touchdowns, and the most total yards and total touchdowns entering Week 7.
