SCHOFIELD, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The D.C. Everest School District celebrated a major milestone as its new Greenheck Turner Community Center inches closer to completion. Monday marked the last day of steel installation; celebrating what is known as a “topping off” ceremony.
One final piece of steel was decorated with a small Christmas tree – to signify there were no injuries during construction – along with an American flag and a banner for Iron Workers Local 383, the union who worked on the building. Then it was connected to the rest of the building.
Joseph Boomer, who has been working on the project, told WAOW-TV he is proud of the work that was put in. “It’s a great feeling. It’s a great feeling knowing that nobody got hurt on site and it’s also another one for the books. Another building put up safely and another job well done.”
When it is all said and done, the new building will have an indoor turf field, a place for people to gather called “The Wedge” and meeting rooms.
D.C. Everest Superintendent Casey Nye said work on the building will continue into next year.
