A member of the Wausau City Council has called a news conference for Wednesday.
Current District 4 Alder Doug Diny has called a news conference for 1:00 PM that day for a “Special campaign announcement.” No further specifics were provided.
Diny has been rumored to have his sights set on challenging current Mayor Katie Rosenberg, who announced her re-election bid last spring.
Diny is in his first term representing District 4 after defeating Jesse Kerns by about 20 votes during the 2022 election. He previously challenged longtime District 4 Alder Tom Neal in 2018, losing that race by just over 60 votes.
Another Wausau resident has expressed interest in running for Mayor. Should all three gather the 200 signatures required to get on the ballot, a Mayoral Primary would be required in February.
