MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Although Wisconsin on Friday saw its highest total of new coronavirus cases all week, the seven-day average of new cases has dipped below 700.
The state Department of Health Services reported 826 new positive tests on Friday and 9,744 negative tests. The seven-day average of new cases fell to 690, its lowest level in nearly six weeks.
Friday’s 7.8% positive test rate was higher than the seven-day average, which fell to 7.6%.
DHS also reported one new death, bringing the seven-day average down to six.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 69,059 coronavirus cases, more than 1.1 million negative tests and 1,068 deaths.
DHS lists 60,055 people as having recovered from COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus.
Green Bay-based emergency room doctor Brad Burmeister said on Good Day Wisconsin Friday that the number of COVID-19 patients in area hospitals is similar to the number during the peak in May. COVID-19 is the illness caused by the new coronavirus.
Statewide hospital data had not been updated for the day as of early afternoon.
