POLK COUNTY, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – A man has been arrested nearly 38 years after a woman was murdered in Polk County.
According to Polk County Sheriff Brent Waak’s news statement, Mary Josephine Bailey was arrested in Arizona on Monday for the murder of Yvonne Menke. Bailey is 80 years old, according to court records.
Menke was 45 years old when she was killed in St. Croix Falls. On December 12, 1985, it occurred.
She was murdered outside her home on her way to work, according to the Polk County cold case website. Three bullet wounds to the head and neck killed her.
A suspect was seen fleeing the alley where her car was parked. That individual was described as being under six feet tall and dressed in a dark stocking cap and a grey 3/4 length coat.
Bailey is accused of first-degree murder. A new court date has not yet been set. She is now being held in Maricopa County, Arizona, pending extradition.
