WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A man accused of stabbing another man outside a rural Marathon County tavern will go to trial in the spring of 2024.
Leovigildo Cruz Hernandez was scheduled for a five-day jury trial from March 18th through the 24th for one count of attempted first-degree homicide by use of a dangerous weapon.
The 19-year-old is accused of stabbing another man multiple times outside Perla’s Place Bar in Unity. The two men knew each other because they came from the same town in Mexico.
Investigators say the victim had borrowed money from Hernandez but hadn’t paid the entirety of the loan back. The victim was found bleeding from the stomach and was rushed to Marshfield Medical Center. Investigators also found the knife in the parking lot of the tavern.
Judge Suzanne O’Neill also scheduled a set May 13th through the 17th as alternative dates for the trial. If found guilty Hernandez faces more than 60 years in prison.
