MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – According to reports, top prospect Jackson Chourio and the Milwaukee Brewers agreed to an eight-year, $80 million contract on Thursday.
As per Jon Heyman’s report in the New York Post, this agreement will be the largest contract ever awarded to a minor league player with no major league experience and comes with two team options.
Luis Robert of the Chicago White Sox, who in 2020 inked a six-year, $50 million contract and went on to earn the Silver Slugger Award, Gold Glover, and All-Star team, held the previous record.
Chourio has quickly risen through the ranks of the organization and is currently MLB.com’s #2 prospect in all of baseball.
Chourio began the 2022 season at Double-A Biloxi and played in 122 games after making an impression at several minor league levels by batting. 280 with 84 runs scored, 43 stolen bases, 89 RBI, and 22 home runs.
His season also included being named to the All-Star Futures Game, and he earned a six-game stint in Triple-A, hitting .333 with two RBIs and a steal.
