MERRILL, WI (WSAU) — A man wanted on an outstanding warrant in Chippewa County was arrested after a police chase that stretched from Lincoln to Marathon Counties last Saturday.
The incident started when officers attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle for illegal license plates. They discovered that the driver, identified as 54-year-old Bernard Robertson of Irma, had an active arrest warrant.
Robertson then took off on County Road W into the Town of Pine River and continued into Marathon County. He continued eastbound on Shady Lane before crashing his vehicle in a wooded area.
Officers say Robertson fled on foot with two officers in pursuit. The chase took them near a 20-30 foot embankment, which both officers fell into. They sustained leg injuries but were still able to take Robertson into custody.
He’s due in Lincoln County Court on Friday for felony counts of recklessly endangering safety, fleeing an officer, and resisting an officer- resulting in bodily harm or soft tissue injury.
Court records show Robertson was wanted in Chippewa County for receiving stolen property valued at between $5,000 and $10,000 and bail jumping. His next court appearance in that case is scheduled for December 12th.
Both officers involved in the case were treated and released from a local hospital. Robertson was also treated for minor injuries before he was booked.
