WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Wausau’s Man of Honor Society will hold its 15th annual Ham Giveaway this Saturday in Marathon Park.
John Fust Jr with the Man of Honor Society says the event is a thank you to everyone who has served in the military or is currently serving. “This isn’t just for Veterans in need. This is the Man of Honor Society saying thanks to our Vets. Whether you think you need it or not, come down and get one.”
Fust adds that there are no income restrictions. The only requirement is current or prior military service.
Veterans and active military members will again receive their ham in drive-thru fashion this year. Participants are asked to line up at the Garfield Street entrance and have a valid military ID ready. Acceptable IDs include DD Form 214, Current I.D. from the military, or current VA I.D. card.
Those IDs will be checked at the giveaway point, and recipients must be present in the vehicle to receive the ham.
The giveaway begins promptly at 9:00 AM though Veterans are encouraged to line up early. The hams will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis. In previous years supplies have been exhausted in as little as 45 minutes.
Fust says they have about 750 hams and over 250 turkeys to give away.
Donors to this year’s event include Lamb’s and Sam’s Club.
