STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The Portage County Board of Supervisors ruled that Supervisor David Peterson violated its code of conduct, after several people accused him of breaking county rules.
Five people made formal complaints against him to the county board; they allege that he was rude to the audience and committee members during committee meetings that he was the chair of for over a year. They also accuse him of being biased, and that he limited time for public comment. One man in the audience said, “I and others formally asked that Mr. Peterson be removed as chair of land and water over a year ago. There had been concerns over his actions and his behavior then.”
But not everyone was their to criticize Peterson, one man who sat next to him defended him to the board. The man said, “This afternoon I truly hope, that you can see what these complaints are, a political witch hunt. It is no coincidence that one of the complainants is Ray Reser, who Supervisor Peterson defeated in the last election.”
The Portage Count board upheld some, but not all, of the misconduct allegations. What discipline Supervisor Peterson faces is unclear.
