MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — A sad end for a wandering Wisconsin elk.
Bull elk number 357 was struck and killed by a semi and discovered Wednesday morning near the intersection of Interstates 80 and 55 southwest of Chicago.
Eric Lobner, director of the Department of Natural Resources wildlife management program, said the elk wasn’t wearing a tracking collar, but was identified by a numbered tag.
Tips through a wildlife observation database about the wandering elk began in September.
His search for a mate began in Black River State Forest and ranged for hundreds of miles across Wisconsin.
