FOND Du LAC, WI (WSAU) — Three Wausau residents were arrested in Fond Du Lac County in late December after a routine traffic stop turned into a large drug bust.
Sheriff’s officers pulled the vehicle over for going 88 MPH in a 70 MPH zone. While interacting with the driver, the deputy noticed signs of impairment and drug activity. That led to a search of the driver and three passengers.
The driver, a 26-year-old from Wausau, failed a field sobriety test and was arrested on suspicion of their 6th OWI. They are also facing charges for possession of designer drugs, fentanyl, cocaine, THC, and a hallucinogenic. The unidentified driver was also facing a probation hold.
A 32-year-old passenger is also facing charges for possession of designer drugs, fentanyl, and a non-narcotic controlled substance. Officers did not release their name but did confirm they were a Wausau resident.
Two other passengers, a 22-year-old from Wausau and an 18-year-old from Chicago, were arrested for possession of THC and other controlled substances.
Among the drugs that were seized at the stop were 700 ecstasy pills, 74 unidentified prescription pills, 24 grams of fentanyl, 3 grams of mushrooms, and a small amount of marijuana.
The stop occurred on December 30th though the Sheriff’s Department did not announce the charges until Saturday, January 6th. It’s unclear if the accused have made a court appearance.
