ROTHSCHILD, Wis.(WAOW-WSAU)– This time of the year can be tough on one’s mental health. To help, local leaders hosted a new event called ‘Through a New Lens’.
The free event was available to anyone in the community as there were several family-friendly activities such as face painting, a scavenger hunt, and 35 local organization booths. Although the event was jam-packed with family-friendly activities, there was a bigger message about mental health that organizers wanted to send.
“What we have been talking about is how we can get more awareness in the community for folks when a crisis occurs. If there is someone who needs to see a professional counselor or needs to understand what resources are there this is an opportunity to do that,” said Chad Billeb, Marathon County Sheriff.
The NAMI Northwoods also made their presence known by reminding people of the resources they offer.
“We help with raise your voice which is into the high schools in the area so really we are just here to help people through mental illness,” said Jamie Rannow, vice president of the NAMI Northwoods board.
This event was a first for local leaders and they hope to help as many people as they can.
If you or someone else is experiencing a mental health crisis you can call the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
