WASHINGTON DC (WSAU) – A House Select Jan. 6 Committee subcommittee looking into the Capitol riot of January 6, 2021, is attempting to retrieve 117 encrypted files that were suspiciously erased by the now-dissolved J6 committee before Republicans gained control of the House last year.
According to Fox News, the House Administration Subcommittee on Oversight’s digital forensics team was able to retrieve the password-protected files after determining that the data deletion had taken place on January 1, 2023.
The outlet further stated that Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.), the panel’s chairman, has written to former House Jan. 6 Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), asking for the credentials needed to view the information and set a date Wednesday, January 24th before further action is taken.
“It’s obvious that [former House Speaker Nancy] Pelosi’s Select Committee went to great lengths to prevent Americans from seeing certain documents produced in their investigation. It also appears that Bennie Thompson and Liz Cheney intended to obstruct our Subcommittee by failing to preserve critical information and videos as required by House rules,” Loudermilk told Fox News Digital.
As of today, a total of 1,069 defendants have been charged with crimes related to the Capitol riot, with 935 of those charges amounting to basic trespassing charges for entering or remaining in a restricted federal building or grounds. In comparison, the FBI has yet to arrest anyone connected to the pro-Palestine riot that took place outside of the White House in November, which involved individuals scaling the White House gates, chanting for the Secret Service to “bring out that war criminal!” referring to President Biden, vandalizing the gates themselves, and the Israeli Embassy in DC with “Death to Israel” written in red paint.
