MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – The Milwaukee Brewers may not be done making deals after trading their ace Corbin Burnes to Baltimore last week.
According to MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy, Brewers general manager Matt Arnold stated that the team may be open to making other trades. “I’m certainly open to more conversations,” Arnold said. “I certainly wouldn’t shut any conversations down at this point in the offseason.”
MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reported over the weekend that the Brewers have “entertained” moving closer Devin Williams and shortstop Willy Adames which would further expand Milwaukee’s second-ranked minor league system.
Williams, popularly known as the “airbender,” agreed to a one-year, $7.25 million contract last month and added a $10.5 million club option for the 2025 season, avoiding the need for an arbitration hearing for the next two years making his trade price likely much higher than what the Brewers received in return for Burnes.
As for Willy Adames, he is coming off a down year in which he hit .217 with 24 home runs after hitting 31 homers in 2022, but he is still considered a high-value player due to his success in many different defensive and offensive categories. It is not known if a team has already contacted the Brewers about a deal involving Adames, but after acquiring Joey Ortiz from Baltimore, they may be more inclined to make a deal for the right return.
