WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Voters throughout the city of Wausau have reason to go to the polls on Tuesday as three candidates for Mayor will be narrowed down in the primary election.
Incumbent Katie Rosenberg is facing two challengers in District 4 Alder Doug Diny and resident Christopher Wood. Voters will select one candidate, with the top two advancing to the April general election.
Additionally, voters in District 4 have a three-way race to replace Diny on the Council. Former Alder Tom Neal headlines the group. He’s joined by residents Debra Weiss and Vylius Leskys. Again, voters will select one candidate during the primary with the top two advancing to April.
Primary elections will also happen in Kronenwetter where nine Village Trustee candidates will be cut to six. That ballot includes:

A primary will also be on the ballot for Marathon County Supervisory in the Kronenwetter area, though one candidate has withdrawn from that race. Incumbent Joel Straub is joined by Randy Fifrick and Alexander Vedvik.
Vedvik recently announced he has withdrawn from the race. County Clerk Kim Trueblood notes that his name will remain on the ballot because his paperwork was completed, and the top two vote-getters will still advance to the April election.
There will also be a Mayor’s primary in Wisconsin Rapids where Matt Zacher, Tom Terry Mews, Nick Palmquist, and Preston Seitz are all vying to replace Shane Blaser. Again, voters will select one candidate in the primary and the top two will advance to April.
Blaser announced last fall that he would not seek a third term in office, and has endorsed Zacher.
Polls will be open from 7 AM to 8 PM on Tuesday. Voters should check their registration status and polling place at the myvote.wi.gov website before heading out. Those who aren’t registered will be able to do so at the polls.
