WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The City of Wausau will have a new transit director in early March.
Arran Hersey will be joining MetroRide on March 4th. He replaces Matthew Rosenbloom-Jones, who resigned last November after just seven months on the job.
Deputy Director Megan Newman told the city’s Transit Commission that Hersey previously served as an operations manager for Trimet, which provides bus and light rail service to the Portland, West Linn, and Beaverton, Oregon area.
Hersey will join a department that has struggled with staffing issues and limited access. Several focus groups and committees have previously examined the issue of transit in Wausau, with many coming to the same conclusion- service could be improved by expanded hours, weekend service, and service to neighboring communities such as Weston and Rib Mountain.
The announcement was made during a special meeting on Thursday, during which the Commission also moved a proposal to purchase new busses by tapping into the latest round of VW settlement grant funds. That proposal is set to go to the Finance Committee and City Council for consideration next Tuesday.
