GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – The busy day in Green Bay is continuing as the team has landed one of their top free-agent targets.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Packers and former NY Giants safety Xavier McKinney have agreed to a four-year deal worth $68 million total and will pay out $25 million this upcoming season.
The 24-year-old McKinney played in 46 games over his four seasons after being selected in the second round by the New York Giants in 2020. Due to a fractured foot, he missed a significant portion of 2020 and also missed time in 2022 due to a broken hand he suffered during an ATV accident.
McKinney was sixth in quarterback rating (52.1) and fourth in missed tackle percentage with only seven total misses, according to Pro Football Focus. With 9.8 covering snaps per reception, he was 28th out of 49 safeties in the league with at least 75 snaps from the slot. He was also charged by PFF with four touchdowns against nine interceptions in four seasons and zero touchdown catches allowed in 2023.
