Talk of creating another regional transportation system in the Wausau area will restart tomorrow.
The Marathon County Metropolitan Planning Commission will meet at 2:00 PM Tuesday, and according to the agenda they’ll be introduced to the latest iteration of the Transit Planning Workgroup, which will include representatives from multiple communities in Central Wisconsin and Dave Eckman from the Greater Wausau Chamber of Commerce.
The group’s goal is to find a way to expand the public transportation currently offered in Wausau to other communities, something that hasn’t been available in years. They’ll hold their first meeting in April to go over the current offerings from Wausau MetroRide, then set goals for expanding service.
Current recommendations call for the group to present their findings to local communities next January.
The represented communities include Schofield, Weston, Rothschild, Rib Mountain, and Wausau. Schofield and Weston will each have two people on the workgroup, and Wausau will have four including Mayor Katie Rosenberg and Alder Becky McElhaney. The remaining communities will have one each.
New MetroRide Director Arran Hersey will also represent Wausau. Marathon County Supervisor John Robinson will also participate.
See more about the group in Tuesday’s agenda packet, which can be found here. The group’s description is on page 14.
