MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – The Milwaukee Brewers will be without their top relief pitcher for the beginning of the season due to a serious back injury.
Williams reportedly suffered two stress fractures to his back, per Jeff Passan of ESPN. He could be out for up to three months due to the injury, but the goal is to rehab it in preparation for a possible midseason comeback. Williams saw a back specialist on Wednesday evening, according to Passan, and the specialist determined that there were two stress fractures and predicted that he may be able to return to pitching after six weeks of rest and six weeks of physical therapy.
With Williams out of the lineup, Milwaukee will likely turn to Trevor Megill, Joel Payamps, and Abner Uribe in the late innings of games to try to stay in the playoff hunt until Williams can be cleared to return to the mound.
