MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – One of the Brewers’ top prospects will miss time after getting hit in the face by a pitch while playing for the Shuckers on Thursday.
According to Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, third-base prospect Brock Wilken, who is with the Double-A affiliate in Biloxi, was struck by a 94 MPH pitch in the face on Thursday night and sustained several facial fractures.
Wilken remarkably did not have a concussion or lose any vision, but he will likely require facial surgery after the swelling goes down. GM Matt Arnold spoke about Wilken’s status in a statement, saying, “He will continue to be evaluated, and surgery is likely once the swelling has subsided. His long-term prognosis is good, but he will be placed on the 7-day IL.”
In the most recent amateur draft, Wilken, 21, was selected by Milwaukee in the first round (at pick No. 18 overall) via Wake Forest and was hitting just .167 in just five games played so far this season.
