WASHINGTON D.C. (WSAU) – Former President Trump’s poll numbers seem to be slightly improving despite his legal issues, which have dominated national headlines in recent weeks.
According to the latest poll from NPR/PBS News Hour/Marist, which ran from May 21 through the 23rd and included 1,122 registered voters, Trump has seen a jump among independent voters, with 54 percent saying they would vote for the former President if the election were today and 42 percent saying they would do the same for Biden. When third-party candidates were included, Trump still held a large lead among independent voters, at 44% to 28%, mainly due to Robert Kennedy Jr. taking 17% of the independent vote.
One of the biggest surprises of the poll came when non-white respondents came in at a tie between Biden and Trump at 41% each, and the former president also held leads among Gen Z/Millennial voters at 40% to 34% as well as Gen X voters at 49% to 43%.
This poll comes only days after CNN’s Harry Enten released a recent analysis on how Trump’s legal battles are fairing compared to issues such as the economy, immigration, and abortion, with 65% of voters still saying the economy is their top voting issue with immigration coming in second at 52%, respectively. The “hush money” trial came in fourth at 42%, and while speaking about the data, Enten stated, “When we are looking at these numbers, what we see is Americans’ minds aren’t changing, and a big reason why Americans’ minds aren’t changing is that at this particular point, they are tuned out of the conversation.”
According to the latest election odds on Polymarket, Trump’s odds of winning the presidency have increased by 10 points since the beginning of the “hush money” trial in April, going from 46% of the bets going toward Trump winning to 56% in favor of Trump to 37% in favor of Biden winning reelection.
