WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — A former coach at Wisconsin Rapids Assumption High School accused of producing and storing nude images, some of which involved students that were under his guidance, will return to court on Monday.
Seth Milkey is scheduled for an initial appearance at 9:00 AM. He’s facing ten felony counts for capturing an intimate representation. Investigators say he had a web camera set up in his home bathroom that was used to take pictures of students, some of which showed nudity.
Someone in Milkey’s family discovered the alleged images on his laptop, and when he was confronted about them he threatened to commit suicide; leading to a welfare check from police.
The photos did not show sex acts but did show nudity. It’s believed that some of the children in the pictures were students Milkey was mentoring.
The Catholic Diocese of La Crosse released a statement shortly after the charges came to light, saying they are cooperating with the investigation. They added that he passed all of their background checks “before and during” his time as a coach with the school. The statement added that having students visit him at his home was a “clear and troubling violation of diocesan and school policy.”
The 34-year-old faces up to 35 years in prison if found guilty on all ten counts. Court records show he and his wife have also filed for divorce.
