PHILADELPHIA, PA (WSAU) — Two fifth-inning runs held up for the Phillies on Thursday.
Nick Castellanos hit a two-run homer to score Garrett Staubb to secure a 2-0 win and a series sweep in a matchup of first-place teams.
William Contreras recorded two hits including a double. Joey Ortiz had one hit and one walk.
Aaron Ashby allowed two hits and two earned runs over five innings. He falls to 0-2 with the loss.
Aaron Nola earned the win for Philadelphia. He also allowed two hits but didn’t give up a run. Jose Alvarado allowed one hit but managed to nail down the save.
The three-game series produced just nine combined runs, seven by Philadelphia and two for Milwaukee.
Despite the series sweep Milwaukee remains in first place in the NL Central by 5.5 games over the Cubs. They’ll travel to Detroit on Thursday to begin a three-game set against the Tigers on Friday.
