TOWN OF SKANAWAN, WI (WSAU) — A 51-year-old Rhinelander man has died after a two-vehicle crash on US 51 in the Lincoln County Town of Skanawan on Sunday.
Investigators say an SUV driven by a 20-year-old Crandon woman was heading south when she lost control of the vehicle and crossed into the northbound lanes. Her vehicle was struck by a utility van that was heading north.
Both drivers were trapped inside their vehicles and required extraction. The 51-year-old man, who was driving the van, died at the scene. The woman was taken to a Wausau-area hospital by helicopter. An update on her condition has not been given.
The woman’s dog also died in the crash.
Names of those involved have not been released.
Lincoln County Sheriff’s Officers noted that they received “multiple” 911 calls about the crash. The incident closed US 51 North from about 11 PM Sunday until 7:45 AM Monday.
