WASHINGTON D.C. (WSAU) – With the first presidential debate only ten days away, one candidate’s campaign appears to be running low on cash while another has extended their lead in a midwestern state that could signal a major shift in the electoral map come November.
According to Politico, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s presidential campaign is on financial life support after only being able to bring in small-dollar donations, unlike President Biden and former President Trump, who are both fresh off of major California fundraisers that raked in tens of millions each.
Politico states that had RFK Jr.’s running mate Nicole Shanahan not given $10 million towards the campaign when selected as his VP choice, the campaign would have been in debt, but campaign spokesperson Stefanie Spear told the outlet that it’s not about the money, saying, “We never planned to outspend the establishment. We planned to out-people them, and that is exactly what we are doing every day.”
Kennedy Jr. is scheduled to appear in the upcoming critical CNN presidential debate as his poll numbers have remained steady in recent weeks, with JL Partners currently having him winning 5% of the vote in Wisconsin and Reuters/Ipsos having RFK Jr. winning 10% of the vote nationally in a poll that saw a four-point swing toward Trump since their last poll on June 1st.
The Reuters poll was one of several polls that showed the former president gaining momentum since his New York “hush money’ trial conviction, which included a Des Moines Register poll released on Monday that showed Trump ahead of Biden in Iowa by 18 points, which represents a 17-point swing toward Trump since June 2020.
According to pollster Frank Luntz, the Iowa poll could spell trouble for the Biden campaign, saying in a post on X, “In 2020, Trump won Iowa by +8 points. Now, Iowa’s best pollster shows him up +18 in the state, which is bad news for Biden in more competitive states like Wisconsin and Michigan.”
As it currently stands in key swing states, the latest Redfield & Wilton Strategies poll for the Telegraph shows Trump leading President Biden in Georgia by five points, North Carolina by three points, Florida by six points, Arizona by two points, and Pennsylvania by two points. In the poll, RFK Jr. saw the biggest portions of the vote in North Carolina and Florida, where he polled at 7%.
