WASHINGTON D.C. (WSAU) – Former President Trump’s campaign’s busy fundraising month has paid off, as the Biden campaign reportedly fell behind by an estimated $55 million.
According to the New York Post, the Trump team brought in over $141 million in donations in May compared to President Biden’s haul of $85 million, giving the Republican National Committee a second straight victory on the fundraising front over the Democratic National Committee as the RNC outraised the DNC in April by $25 million.
The Trump campaign noted that the donations were motivated by the historic guilty verdict in Trump’s Manhattan hush money trial. Donors provided $53 million in the 24 hours following the reading of the verdict on May 30, with many of the donations coming from first-time donors.
The funds will likely be spent to fund massive upcoming ad campaigns, including the Biden campaign, which set aside $50 million to attempt to brand the former President as a convicted felon, and the Trump campaign, which is looking to attack Biden’s record on immigration and the economy.
As it currently stands, Trump holds a two-point lead in key swing states, including Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, according to the latest IPSOS poll, with respondents favoring the former president on issues such as immigration (44%–26%), the economy (44%–31%), and foreign conflicts (40%–28%), while Biden’s only lead comes on the issue of healthcare (35%–28%).
