STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — A former Stevens Point EMT accused of groping women at a Stevens Point hospital will make an initial appearance on Monday to face both felony and misdemeanor charges for sexual assault
Mark Schoberle will be in court at 1:30, accused of five counts between two cases including felony accusations of second-degree sexual assault.
The 51-year-old is accused of inappropriately touching the breasts of two women while they were receiving care at Aspirus Hospital in Stevens Point. In one of the instances, he’s also accused of making lewd statements towards the victim.
Court records show the misdemeanor charges were filed on Thursday, June 20th. It’s unclear if they relate to the felony counts, which occurred when Schoberle was employed with Aspirus. The health system released a statement immediately after the charges came to light, noting that Schoberle was terminated after they learned of the accusations and law enforcement was notified.
Schoberle retired from the Stevens Point Fire Department in September 2023 and is no longer employed with Aspurus. Portage County District Attorney Cass Cousins notes officials from Waupaca County handled the investigation due to potential conflicts of interest.
