MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – The Milwaukee Bucks have agreed to deal with free agent guard Gary Trent Jr. as former guard Patrick Beverley chooses to play overseas.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the deal between the Bucks and Trent Jr. is a one-year deal that will reunite him with former Portland teammate Damian Lillard. Details on the price of the contract are yet to be made public.
Trent Jr. averaged 13.7 points and 1.7 assists in 2023 with Toronto, which was a slight drop from his strong 2021 season, where he averaged 18.3 points and two assists per game after he signed a three-year, $51.8 million deal with Toronto in 2021. Trent Jr. reportedly was hoping for a rise from last season’s $18.6 million, possibly as high as $25 million, but the Raptors didn’t offer him a deal worth more than $15 million a year this off-season making him look elsewhere.
The Bucks will look for him to replace Patrick Beverley, who signed a deal with Hapoel Tel Aviv BC of the Israeli Basketball Premier League and EuroCup Basketball on Tuesday morning, saying, “They gave me everything I asked for… I couldn’t refuse,” and losing Malik Beasley to the Detroit Pistons on a one-year, six-million dollar deal.
