TOWN OF LONGWOOD, WI (WSAU) — A rural Clark County Church is considered a total loss after an overnight fire.
Leaders with the Emmanuel Lutheran-Longwood Church say the fire started sometime early this morning, burning much of the sanctuary but leaving the parish hall untouched.
Residents are being asked to stay out of the building for now, including the parish hall which will need to be inspected before it can be cleared.
Church leaders released a statement on Facebook, saying “We give thanks for the firefighters from the surrounding areas who helped put out the fire and give thanks for all of your prayers and condolences. Please pray for the people of Emmanuel as we grieve memories of an important place and ask God’s guidance for the future.”
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Events at the Chuch, including next weekend’s worship service, have been canceled. Services will resume in early August at an alternative location.
