STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — One of the three Wausau-area men suspected of beating a Stevens Point man, who died from his injuries, has been scheduled for a late-August trial.
Court records show Arlin Sangster has been scheduled for a five-day trial between August 26th and 30th for one count of reckless homicide and a misdemeanor count for theft of movable property.
Investigators say Sangster and the two others beat 61-year-old Donald Mitchell Jr in a downtown parking lot after they were caught rummaging through his truck. Mitchell is said to have armed himself with a pair of pliers before he confronted them.
The tool was found next to his body before first responders rushed him to a local hospital. Mitchell died from his injuries the next day.

Sangster is scheduled for a final pre-trial conference on August 5th. He faces up to 46 years in prison if found guilty- 40 years for the felony homicide count and an extra six years because of the victim’s age.
Charges against him carry “party to the crime” modifiers- meaning prosecutors say he didn’t act alone. Christian Emerson returns to court in October for a hearing before an early 2025 trial. Brandon Boehm is scheduled for an arraignment in early October.
