EAU CLAIRE, WI (WSAU) – Republicans and Democrats are making more of an effort to win over voters in swing areas like Wisconsin as the 2024 presidential election is only three months away.
According to their respective campaigns, Trump’s Vice Presidential selection JD Vance, and Vice President Kamala Harris will campaign in Eau Claire on Wednesday. Vance will speak at 1 p.m. at NMC-Wollard Inc./Wollard International, discussing how Americans are “suffering from the Harris-Biden Administration’s woke, dangerously liberal policies.” Meanwhile, Harris will be joined by her new running mate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz though the time or location of their event is yet to be made public.
It remains to be seen what the addition of Walz to the Harris campaign will mean for the ticket, as media outlets wasted no time on Tuesday unveiling policies supported by Walz during his time as Governor, noting that he supported policies that could be unpopular nationally, such as legislation that provided illegal migrants living in Minnesota with taxpayer-funded drivers licenses, college, and healthcare, while also mandating a “COVID tip line” in the state, which provided individuals with the ability to call the police on people not following the state’s COVID policies during events like attending church or birthday parties, resulting in a possible fine.
Since July 22nd, polling firm Redfield & Wilton Strategies has not seen a change in the Badger State, with Harris and Trump still tied at 43%, despite Harris seeing a bump in recent polls, with the latest YouGov/Economist poll showing Trump now trailing Harris nationally by two percentage points after he led the race in their previous poll on July 23rd by two percentage points. The latest Morning Consult poll also showed Trump behind Harris by four percentage points after leading Harris by two percentage points on July 22nd.
