MADISON, WI (WSAU) – The Wisconsin Badgers are dipping into the overseas recruiting pool yet again, as head coach Greg Gard announced on Friday that the program has reached a deal with Italian big man Riccardo Greppi.
According to a post on X from the program, Greppi, an 18-year-old center who stands 6-foot-10, will be joining the team this fall after appearing in seven games for Italy at the U18 2023 European Championships, averaging 2.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 0.6 blocks per game.
Greppi’s commitment to the Badgers comes as he was originally committed to play for the University of Temple for the 2024–25 season. He’ll most likely replace UW center signee Andrija Vukovich, who has not reported to campus and has encountered some difficulties in his move to the United States from Serbia, according to a source who spoke to Badgers247.
The program is anticipated to rely significantly on Steven Crowl and Nolan Winter to provide scoring in the paint this coming season, so players like Greppi will be in high demand for the Badgers as they continue to try to add more size to their bench.
