The Wausau School Board will hold discussions about a possible operating referendum on the November ballot though agenda materials for the meeting do not suggest they will be voting on a potential question.
The item is listed as a “referendum discussion decision” and comes with a PowerPoint presentation on the topic, including details on how the district calculates its mill rate and the success rate of referendum questions statewide.
However, the presentation does not include language for a potential referendum question, meaning it’s unlikely that the board will make a final decision during Monday’s meeting.
This comes after a consultant survey by the district showed little support for hypothetical referendum questions that would increase the school portion of property tax bills by $54 and $108 per $100,000 of property value, and 61% support for a question that would add $3 million to the district’s budget without increasing the mill rate.
Should they decide to move forward with a referendum question this November, it would need to be in place by August 26th.
You can see the presentation for yourself as part of the agenda packet by clicking here. Monday’s meeting begins at 5 PM at the Longfellow Administration Building, and public comment is part of the agenda.
