It’ll be a big night at Wausau City Hall as the City Council meets in Committee of the Whole format to discuss a potential lead service line replacement ordinance.
The discussion comes after the Council tabled the item earlier this summer, saying they wanted more time to refine the proposal. Concerns centered on confusion over what enforceable action the ordinance could contain and a desire to build protections into the ordinance for homeowners to keep them from absorbing costs if grant funding isn’t available in a given year.
The proposal has been in the works for nearly three years.
Public input is part of the agenda. Those wishing to make public comments are asked to pre-register by contacting City Hall before the meeting or register at the door. The meeting is the last of three that will be held on Monday- a short Public Health and Safety Committee meeting is scheduled for 5:15 and the City Council will also have a brief meeting at 6:00. The committee discussion is scheduled for 6:45.
As always it should be noted that Committee of the Whole discussions do not end with action, they are for informational purposes only. The council will be able to send ideas to committees for action, but cannot take action themselves as the result of Monday’s discussion.
